VJ King earns gold medal with USA U-16 men's basketball team
Akron resident VJ King is a gold-medal winning athlete.
King, a sophomore-to-be at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, helped the United States Under-16 men’s national basketball team win the FIBA Americas U16 championship over the weekend in Maldonado, Uruguay.

Lake's Chaese Vaudrin signs with Geneva
Chaese Vaudrin, a 2103 Lake High School graduate, signed with Geneva College in Pennsylvania to continue his education and basketball careers.
Vaudrin helped Lake basketball to its first Federal League Championship during the 2012-2013 season and 21 overall wins.

Perry senior-to-be offensive lineman Stefano Millin has reportedly made an oral commitment Monday to play at Kent State, according to Scout.com.

WRA student nabs lacrosse honor
Western Reserve Academy’s Theodore (TJ) Bobinsky Jr, has been named a 2013 Brine National High School All-American.
He has also been selected to represent the Midwest at the 2013 Brine National Lacrosse Classic to be held in Boyds, Maryland, June 30 - July 3.

Aurora athlete selects Mount Union for tennis
Aurora 2013 graduate Anna Nelson has committed to attend Mount Union and play on the tennis team.
Nelson was a four-time all-conference selection for coach Dania Banc. She plans to study Early Childhood Education.

Hoban tennis players set to play at Mount Union
Two 2013 Archbishop Hoban High School graduates have committed to the University of Mount Union to continue their academic and tennis careers.
Chase Krammel will play for the men’s tennis team. Krammel was a three-year letterwinner, former team MVP, most improved player and sectional champion for coach Benny Pietrangelo. Krammel plans to study Business.

Mount Union football gains Ryan Ross, a OSU transfer & Hoban graduate
Ryan Ross, a 2010 Archbishop Hoban High School graduate, has elected to transfer to Mount Union to play football after spending the past three years at Ohio State.
Ross, a 6-foot, 195-pound wide receiver, was an all-district and Clem Caraboolad Player of the Year honoree at Hoban under coach Ralph Orsini. He had 35 catches for 400 yards with three touchdowns as a senior in the fall of 2009. Ross was a redshirt in 2010 at OSU, and then was on the Buckeyes roster in 2011 and 2012.

Manchester's Richie Ashley commits to Heidelberg for football
Richie Ashley, a 2013 graduate of Manchester High School, has committed to continue his academic and football careers at Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.
Ashley, a 6-foot and 200-pound two-way linemen, was recruited by over 20 schools. He chose to accept a partial academic scholarship offered by Heidelberg because of its academics and record under coach Mike Hallett, who was formerly +an assistant coach at Coventry High School.

Recruting roundup: Walsh's DiCillo gets Miami offer, Massillon's Nathaniel Devers to Cincinnati
- Walsh Jesuit senior tailback/linebacker Bryan DiCillo has reportedly been offered by Miami University, according to ScoutingOhio.com.
- Massillon senior offensive lineman Nathaniel Devers has reportedly made a verbal commitment to play football at the University of Cincinnati, according to ScoutingOhio.com.
Devers is 6 feet 5 and 275 pounds, according to 247 Sports. He also had offers from Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo and UConn.
- Cincinnati Withrow senior linebacker Reggie Howard has orally committed to play football at Kent State, according to Cincinnati.com.
Howard, who is a member of the 2014 class, is 6 feet 4 and 225 pounds. He is a very athlete linebacker who was recruited by former Withrow coach Doc Gamble, who is now a Kent State assistant.

Canal Park set to host all-star baseball game Wednesday
Top area senior high school baseball players are set to meet today at Canal Park in the first Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame Summit County High School All-Star Game.
Gates open at noon and first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $1 for children ages 6-12. All proceeds go to the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame.

Hoban baseball players decide on college futures
Archbishop Hoban baseball coach Jim Diestel said senior Aaron Cain will play baseball at Case Western Reserve University alongside his brother, Kerrigan Cain.
Diestel also said Hoban seniors Drew Lakos, Sean Trexler and Adam Gray have each decided to play baseball at Walsh University.

Hudson baseball coach Buddy Dice said five seniors have decided to play a sport in college.
The Hudson players who will play baseball at the next level are Jono Chafe (Kenyon), Brian Malerick (Miami of Ohio), Mitch Schoenman (Washington & Jefferson) and Brian Snyder (Thiel).

Firestone Stadium will play host to two all-star games tonight and one Wednesday.
Game organizers Jim Noall and Lisa Simpson said the Barney Ellis All-Star Fastpitch Softball Series will feature games at 6 and 8 Tuesday, and 6 Wednesday.

Defiance defeats Hoban 5-1 in Division II state baseball semifinal
The Archbishop Hoban baseball team’s season came to an end Friday when the Defiance Bulldogs defeated the Knights 5-1 in a Division II state semifinal at Huntington Park in Columbus.
Hoban concludes its season with a 20-11 record.

OHSAA adjusts state baseball schedule due to rain, affects Hoban & Aurora
Due to inclement weather in Columbus Thursday afternoon, the schedule for the OHSAA baseball state tournament has been adjusted. Only one more game will be played Thursday, resulting in a shift of the schedule that will put two state championship games on Sunday.

Jenna Lilley of Hoover named the 2012-13 Gatorade Ohio Softball Player of the Year
North Canton Hoover junior Jenna Lilley has been named the 2012-13 Gatorade Ohio Softball Player of the Year.
The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, has selected athletes for the past 28 years in various sports across the country. Lilley is the third Gatorade Ohio Softball Player of the Year to be chosen from Hoover.

VJ King of St. V-M named to USA Basketball Men’s U16 National Team
St. Vincent-St. Mary basketball player VJ King has been selected to play for the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s U16 National Team.
The team is practicing and preparing for the FIBA Americas U16 Championship, which will take place in Maldonado, Uruguay from June 11-15.

Norwayne junior Trevahn Beery has committed to play football at Western Michigan University in the Mid-American Conference.
Beery, who is 6-foot-2 1/2 and 185 pounds, plays cornerback and wide receiver for Norwayne.

VJ King of St. V-M will continue to train with USA Basketball
St. Vincent-St. Mary basketball player VJ King is among a group of 16 players that will continue to train with USA Basketball in Colorado Springs.
King was one of 30 players who practiced with the 2013-14 USA Basketball Men’s Developmental National Team at the U.S. Olympic Training Center on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. USA Basketball trimmed the group of players down to 16 for the remaining practices that will conclude on June 6.
