COLUMBUS: The Ohio High School Athletic Association says schools can play three preseason football contests this August, giving players one more opportunity to prepare for the regular season.
The association said Thursday that holding the extra contest would also give athletic departments another opportunity to bring in money from ticket sales.
Schools had been limited to playing just two scrimmages. But Commissioner Daniel Ross said in a statement that the third contest — a jamboree — could be played between Aug. 14 and Aug. 22. Up to four schools could participate in any one jamboree, with teams playing two quarters or a full game.
The association says some ticket revenue will be used to pay for catastrophic accident insurance coverage.
