Name: Joe Yost. Head Varsity Coach. Age: 60.
Occupation: Physical education and health teacher at Ellet High School. In his 35th year teaching at Ellet. Taught three years at Hyre Middle School.
Education: Graduated from Ellet in 1971, earned a bachelors degree from the University of Akron in 1976 and a masters from Akron in 1984.
Years on Ellet football coaching staff: 42nd year overall, 35th year as head coach.
Head coaching record: 201-143-2.
Total years of football coaching: 43rd overall. Spent seven seasons as an assistant to former Ellet coach Bill McLain from 1971-1975 and 1977-1978 and one season as a volunteer assistant to former UA coach Jim Dennison in 1976. Coached the Ellet JV team and varsity wide receivers, linemen and linebackers as an assistant. Was the defensive coordinator in 1975, 1977 and 1978. Worked as an outside linebacker coach at UA.

Athletic background: Played football and wrestled at Ellet. Earned three letters in football and one in wrestling. Played middle linebacker for McLain and was a senior captain.
Coaching accomplishments: Led Ellet to playoffs twice (Division I, 1991 and Division II, 2012), one outright City Series championship (2012) and five shared league titles (1989, 1991, 1992, 1995 and 2006). Produced 19 winning seasons and six .500 seasons. Only coach in City Series history to amass over 200 victories. Coach of the Year recipient in the City Series and the Northeast Ohio Inland District.
Name: John Sarver. Defensive backs and kickers coach; Head JV coach. Age: 59.

Education: Graduated from Ellet in 1973, earned a bachelors degree from Austin Peay State University in 1978 and a master’s degree from Kent State University in 1979.

Other sports coached: Completed 34th year as a baseball coach last season and has a 461-306 overall record. Served as Ellet baseball coach since 1999 and has won nine City Series championships. Previously coached baseball at Kenmore, Archbishop Hoban (two stints) and Buchtel. Guided Hoban to a Division II state runnerup finish in 1993. has won three district titles overall. Also a basketball referee for the past 32 years.
Family: Wife is Janis and children are Julianne (28) and Kristin (26). Granddaughter is Leah. Both daughters were cheerleaders at Ellet. Wife is in her 33rd serving as Ellet cheerleading advisor and is an intervention specialist teacher.
Athletic background: Earned three letters apiece in football and baseball at Ellet. An All-City Series and All-Metro League selection in both sports. Played quarterback, safety, kicker and punter in football. A right-handed pitcher and outfielder in baseball. Played two years of college baseball apiece at Valencia Community College in Orlando, Fla. and at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn.
Name: Bill Lehman. Defensive backs coach. Age: 60.
Occupation: Retired employee with Acme.
Education: Graduated from Ellet in 1971, attended classes at the University of Akron.

Name: Gary Yost. Linebacker coach. Age: 61.
Occupation: Completed 38th year with All-State Insurance, works as sales manager and agency owner for past 28 years.
Education: Graduate of Ellet in 1969, earned Accounting and Business Administration degrees from the University of Akron by 1975.

Athletic background: Competed in football and track and field at Ellet. Earned four letters playing on the University of Akron football team, named 1972 defensive back MVP, a captain in 1974.
Name: Chuck Shuman. Offensive coordinator, quarterback and defensive back coach. Age: 64.
Occupation: Retired teacher in the Akron Public Schools. Taught mostly at Betty Jane Elementary School in Akron.
Education: Graduate of East in 1967, earned bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Akron.

Total years of football coaching: 43rd year. Also coached at East for two stints and Firestone for one stint.
Other sports coached: Completed 28th year as Ellet softball coach last season and has a 550-206 overall record. Led Ellet to the Division I state title in 1996, a state runner-up finish in 1995 and a state semifinal appearance in 1997. Won 24 City Series championships, including 13 in a row, and nine district titles.
Family: Wife is Janet and children are Carrie Wolf and Kevin Shuman. Coached Carrie in softball and Kevin in football. Grandchildren are Amanda, 16, a junior softball player, Samantha, 14, a freshman softball player and Sydnie, 12, a seventh grade softball player and cheerleader at Hyre. Amanda and Samantha are cheerleaders at Ellet too.
