Orrville junior linebacker Mason Monheim plans to take unofficial visits to Northwestern, Illinois and Boston College next week, according to Orrville coach Doug Davault.

Monheim, who is one of the state’s top players in the 2012 class, has already visited Michigan.

Lake junior tight end Dylan Seibel has reportedly been offered by Toledo, according to ScoutingOhio.com. It is the first offer for Seibel, who is 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds.

Aurora junior guard Troy Watson has reportedly been offered by Miami of Ohio, according to ScoutingOhio.com. Watson, who is 6-foot-6 and 275 pounds, also has offers from Toledo and Akron.

Using an 11-2 run to wind down the third quarter, the St. Vincent-St. Mary Irish beat Dayton Thurgood Marshall Cougars to claim their sixth state boys basketball title.

Walsh Jesuit junior kicker Ross Martin has reportedly been offered by Kent State, according to ScoutingOhio.com. Martin, who is 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, also has offers from Pittsburgh and Iowa State. He has also received interest from Harvard.

Cincinnati Withrow senior Skyler Willis has signed to run track at the University of Akron , according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Willis was part of the 800-meter relay that was eighth at the Division I state meet (1:43.37) last spring in Columbus . She was also part of the 1,600 relay that was seventh at state (4:02.01).

The University of Akron football program has been showing interest in Oak Hills junior offensive lineman Caleb Stacey, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Firestone senior Darius Carter remains undecided on his college plans, Falcons boys’ basketball coach Joe Wojcik said.

Carter, a 6-foot-7 forward, has been receiving interest from several Division I colleges and junior colleges. Division I schools such as the University of Akron, Kent State and Wright State have expressed interest over the past couple of years.

The Greater Akron Basketball Coaches Association serving Summit, Medina and Portage Counties also recently named their boys award winners.

Darius Carter of Firestone was named the Senior Player of the Year, and Walsh Jesuit junior Evan Payne was named the Underclassman of the Year.

According to a source close to him, Buchtel wide receiver Corey Smith has received a scholarship offer from the University of Alabama.

Minerva junior tight end/wide receiver Kyle Crum isn’t related to former Louisville men’s basketball coach Denny Crum, but Minerva football coach Brett Yeagley has been asked that question more than once.

The University of Louisville was the first school to offer Kyle, but he is no relation to Denny. “It is a coincidence since it is not a common last name,” Yeagley said.

Canton South senior wide receiver James Lucas has committed to Ashland, according to ScoutingOhio.com. Lucas, who is 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, also had interest from Malone and Notre Dame College (Ohio).

Kent State has offered Western Hills High School junior wide receiver Josh Smith, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Smith, who is 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, is one of Cincinnati ’s top players in the 2012 class. Smith also has an offer from Toledo.

The Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches (OATCCC) state indoor meet is this weekend at the University of Akron.

According to the OATCCC website, the Divisions II-III meet starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and the Division I meet starts at 3:30 p.m.

Kent State has offered a scholarship to Elyria junior guard Tad France, according to ScoutingOhio.com.

France, who is 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, is one of Northeast Ohio’s top football players in the 2012 class.

Appleby, who is 6-foot-5 and 225 pounds, has offers from Toledo, Kent State and Temple.

Twinsburg girls basketball coach Julie Solis had a feeling heading into Tuesday night’s regional semifinal game against Wadsworth.

‘’ I was terrifield coming into this game,’’ she admitted. ‘’ I know how Wadsworth kids are when it comes to basketball – their basketball I.Q. and everything.  I need to take a moment and enjoy this one.’’

Two wrestlers had opposite feelings on the subject.

Twenty-one local wrestlers are one victory away from winning a state title tonight at Value City Arena. Eleven are from Division I, six are from Division II and four are from Division III. The title matches from all three divisions are scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. today. Here are the local finalists:

Forty-three local wrestlers are one win away from advancing to the state finals Saturday night at Value City Arena. Twenty are from Division I, 14 are from Division II and nine are from Division III. The semifinals for all three divisions are scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. today. Here are the local semifinalists:

Ruben Burrows, a junior srestler from Canton McKinley, pulled a major upset this afternoon in taking out Ty Davis, from Lakota West High School in West Chester.  David was projected to win this year's title, according to many.

Burrows is the first wrestler to even place for McKinley in more than 20 years.

Archbishop Hoban defensive lineman Greg McMullen added offers from Notre Dame, West Virginia and Michigan, according to ScoutingOhio.com.

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy saw three of its remaining five wrestlers move on to the semifinals at the Ohio High School State Wrestling Tournament tonight.

Nathan Tomasello  won his match in the 103 lbs. class and Alex Utley won in the 189 lbs. class. Josh Decatur lost in the 125 lbs. class, Matt Dobben lost in the 140 lbs. class and Matt Meadows lost in the 215 lbs. class.   All will move to tonigh's consolation round.

The Hudson and Wadsworth girls basketball teams each secured a victory Thursday night in Division I district semifinal games at Ellet.

Hudson defeated Firestone 69-66 in the opening game, and Wadsworth beat Medina 57-37 in the nightcap.

Despite winning a state championship last year, CVCA’s Nathan Tomasello, said that he’s not feeling any pressure this time around.

Ranked No. 1 in the country, the sophomore easily won his opening match Thursday night at Value City Arena.

CVCA's Nathan Tomasello, who is ranked No. 1 in his weight class in the nation, breezed through his opening match at the OHSAA 74th Annual State Wrestling Tournament Thursday afternoon.

Tomasello, a sophmore, pinned St. Martin's Ferry's Damon Outward in the championship prelims.

Two boys basketball games highlight the action at Copley High School in the Northeast District Sectional Tournament tonight beginning at 6 p.m.

In the first game:

Revere senior boys basketball players Larry Nance and DJ Bettinger are continuing to draw interest from several colleges.

Michigan coach John Beilein was in attendance Tuesday at Buchtel to watch Nance help Revere win 67-58.

When you are up 12 points with a quarter left in the game, you're supposed to win, but East lost 63-60 because they panicked.  I refuse to say that they choked because they're high school kids.
