Louisville senior WR commits
Louisville senior WR Brandon Mathie has committed to play at Mount Union. Mathie was all-state, all-district, all-county and all-league for the Leopards. He had 67 receptions for 974 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
Mathie joins Louisville quarterback Neal Seaman at Mount Union.

Dayton basketball standout to visit Akron
Dayton Jefferson junior center Adreian Payne told Rivals.com he will visit Akron "in a couple of weeks."
Payne (6-10, 215 pounds) reportedly has interest from some of the nation's top programs including Cincinnati, Florida, Kansas, Louisville, Maryland, Ohio State, Tennessee, Xavier and others.

St. V-M wins Division II boys basketball state title
St. Vincent-St. Mary won the 2009 Division II boys basketball state championship Saturday with a 59-53 victory over Dayton Thurgood Marshall in the Schottenstein Center's Value City Arena on the campus of Ohio State University.
Senior Daylen Harrison led the Fighting Irish (23-4) with 21 points and four rebounds. Harrison made four free throws in the final 10 seconds to help secure the win.

McKinley graduate wins NCAA Division II basketball title
The University of Findlay men's basketball team won the NCAA Division II championship game Saturday afternoon, with a 56-53 overtime victory over Cal Poly Pomona in Springfield, Ma.
The Findlay Oilers completed the perfect season with a 36-0 record.

Solon junior DE Darryl Baldwin (6-6, 245) has made a schedule of unofficial visits in April.
Baldwin, who is rated the No. 5 player overall the 2010 class by Ohio High Magazine, has offers from Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Purdue, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Stanford, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Akron.

Walsh Jesuit junior gets national honor
Walsh Jesuit junior RHP Tyler Skulina (6-6, 235) has been named to the Perfect Game USA High School Underclassmen All-American team.
Skulina, who has orally committed to play at Virginia, is the only area player on the list. There are two other players in Ohio.

Twinsburg senior Ashley Winston has signed to play golf at Walsh University. She plans to major in middle school education at the NAIA Division II school.
Winston lettered four years at Twinsburg.

Erick Howard update
North Canton junior RB Erick Howard - the 2008 Mr. Football award winner - continues to draw significant college interest.
Howard, who is 5-10 and 210 pounds, told Rivals.com he has offers from Akron, Kent State, Colorado, Cincinnati and possibly Michigan State.

No, we aren't referring to tax day. April 15 is the start of the regular signing period for basketball players in the 2009 class. The final signing date is May 20.
Basketball had an early signing period Nov. 12-19 in 2008.

St. Vincent-St. Mary freshman forward Lorenzo Cugini, who is 6-feet-5, is named among the top seven players to watch in the 2012 class by Ohio High Magazine.

St. Vincent-St. Mary junior power forward Jakarr Simpson is rated No. 7 in the state, according to the publication.

Wadsworth junior OT Ben Buzzelli (6-5, 290) is getting a lot of college interest, according to Wadsworth football coach Greg Dennison. Buzzelli doesn't have any offers yet.
He was fourth in the Division I state wrestling meet this month.

Walsh Jesuit junior close to offer
Just heard from Walsh Jesuit coach Gerry Rardin that Tulsa is getting close to offering junior RB-DB Cameron Ontko (6-0, 215). Ontko is one of the top local prospects in the 2010 class.
Ontko, who doesn't have any offers yet, has taken unofficial visits to Michigan State and Wisconsin. Ontko is getting interest from Big 10 and MAC programs.

Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller junior offensive tackle Jeff Tanner (6-4, 275) has been offered by Akron, according to Cincinnati.com. Tanner also has offers from Kent State and Ohio.

Louisville QB commits to Mount Union
Louisville senior QB Neil Seaman has committed to play at Mount Union. The 6-1, 205-pound player was an all-Ohio selection and Division II co-offensive player of the year last season.
He set school records for most passing yards (5,170), passing yards in a season (2,631), touchdowns in a season (29) and career (49) and total career yards (7,150).

Highland senior to sign Wednesday
Highland senior kicker Eric Duale will sign with Duquesne University at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the high school's media center.
Duale has been offered a full athletic scholarship to Duquesne, which is located in Pittsburgh.

Boys' volleyball season is near
The start of boys' volleyball practice was scheduled for 73 teams across the state this week. The season opens March 28.
The state finals (Divisions I and II) will be held at Walsh Jesuit May 30-31.

Schrock looking toward summer
Wadsworth junior WR Anthony Schrock (6-3, 196) plans to attend Ohio State's camp this summer, Wadsworth coach Greg Dennison confirmed. It was first reported by Bucknuts.com.
Schrock, who has an offer from Akron, also plans to attend camps at other schools, including Northwestern and Akron. The Zips continue to be among the favorites for Schrock.

Highland junior RB one to watch
Highland junior RB-CB Aaron Maslowski (5-9, 177) was among the top performers at the National High School All-Star Combine last month in Berea, reports Rivals.com.
Maslowski had about 500 yards on 50 carries last season for Highland. He played behind Chris Snook, who has signed with West Virginia for next season.

Crestwood junior WR David Czerny (6-0, 165) is getting letters from Dartmouth and Wooster, according to a report on Rivals.com.

It's been just over a month (Feb. 9) since Canton South junior WR Jerald Robinson (6-2, 175) made an oral commitment to play at Michigan.
Despite the high-profile commitment, South coach Moe Daniska said Robinson was able to re-focus on the current high school basketball season within the past month.

Canton McKinley junior RB-LB Jewone Snow (6-2, 220 pounds) has offers from Illinois, Cincinnati, Indiana, Michigan State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Purdue and West Virginia, according to Ohio High Magazine.
Snow is definitely one of the state's top linebackers in the 2010 class.

Middletown junior QB Caleb Watkins (6-3, 210) has been recently offered by Kent State, according to Cincinnati.com.
Watkins threw for a league-leading 2,089 yards last season along with 22 touchdowns. He rushed for 341 yards and three touchdowns.

Perry, Wadsworth among nation's best
Perry is ranked No. 15 nationally in the season's final Amateur Wrestling News Prep 40 poll, which was released Tuesday. The Panthers were two spots beneath No. 13 Lakewood Edward, which won the Division I state title last weekend.
Wadsworth was the only other area team ranked in the poll. The Grizzlies finished 23rd.

Firestone graduate earns MAC Wrestler of Year award
Jermail Porter, a 2004 Firestone High School graduate, recently earned the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Year award after the Kent State University fifth-year senior won the 285-pound MAC title in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Porter earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships with the win. This will be his third appearance at the tournament.

Perry wrestlers headed to Big Ten schools
Perry seniors Sam White and Nick Heflin will continue their academic and wrestling careers at Big Ten colleges, Panthers coach Brent McBurney said.
White and Heflin each won a state title this past Saturday and helped Perry finish second as a team in the Division I team standings.

Just checking the unofficial North Canton 2009 football schedule. Looks like the Vikings will play at Youngstown Boardman in Week 6 this fall.
That will be an interesting matchup of teams featuring two of the state's most highly-recruited football players in the 2010 class. Boardman has junior defensive end J.T. Moore (6-3, 230), who has already orally committed to Ohio State.

West Chester Lakota West junior cornerback Brandon Neal (5-10, 175 pounds) has been offered by Kent State, according to Cincinnati.com.
It is the first offer for Neal, who had a forced fumble and an intereception for the suburban Cincinnati school last season.

Revere runner Meyer signs with OSU
Revere High School cross country runner Julian Meyer signed a National Letter of Intent to run cross country and track for Ohio State University next year. Meyer, who was undefeated in ten cross country meets last fall before suffering a season ending injury the week before the State Cross Country Meet, was recruited by 95 colleges. He will study business at Ohio State.
