Kent Roosevelt freshman soccer player Kayla Fischer is featured in the Sept. 29, 2014 Sports Illustrated issue.
Fischer is one of six “Faces in the Crowd” in the “Scorecard” portion of the magazine.
The writeup on Fischer says the following: “Kayla, a freshman forward at Roosevelt High, scored all the Rough Riders’ goals in her varsity debut, leading the team to a 6-3 win over Highland High. She has 22 goals in nine games through Sunday, a single-season school record. Kayla, who also competes for Everest Soccer Club, was named to the Olympic development pool regional team in August.”
Kent Roosevelt Athletic Director Mark Pfaff said Fischer has 26 goals and eight assists this season for coach Curtis Ahrens.To read more or comment...
Walsh Jesuit junior Dominic Canzone has made a commitment to continue his academic and athletic career as a member of the Ohio State University baseball team.
Canzone, a right-handed pitcher and outfielder, helped Walsh win North Coast League Blue Division championships in 2013 and 2014. The 2014 Walsh team compiled an undefeated regular season, was ranked No. 3 in the CBS MaxPreps Xcellent 50 national baseball rankings and then lost to Hudson in a Division I district final.
Canzone, a Hudson resident, earned All-NCL Blue first team honors and was tabbed for the Division I All-District second team as a sophomore. Canzone is ranked among the Top 20 Players in Ohio by Prep Baseball Report. He compiled a pitching record of 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA, allowing only one unearned run in 16 1/3 innings in 2014. He also posted a .434 batting average with three home runs and 27 runs batted in.
“Dominic Canzone is one of a very select few, extremely rare athletes who has an extraordinary level of talent and potential as both a pitcher and position player,” Walsh coach Chris Kaczmar said.To read more or comment...
