State swimming notes
MR. AND MRS. VERSATILITY
Swimmers can compete in a maximum of four events. The Akron Beacon Journal's five-county coverage area has 12 swimmers that accomplished the feat of qualifying for state in four events.
Firestone junior Kevin Meisner and Wooster junior Alex McCord will compete in four Division I boys events.
Orrville freshman Mason Monheim will race in four Division II boys events. Walsh Jesuit has five swimmers that will compete in four Division II boys events: seniors Alex Kornick, Danny Oldham, Porter Ritchie and Andrew Turner, and junior Sean Murphy.
Firestone freshman Kathleen Campell and senior Breanna McCann will race in four Division I girls events.
Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy sophomore Kelly Ormond and Revere senior Rafia Darwish will each compete in four Division II girls events.
SWIMMING STATE CHAMP?
The area did not have an individual or relay state title via the swimming portion of the meet last season.
However, the Firestone senior tandem of Leanna Hoover of Bethany Haver finished first and second in the Division I state one-meter diving event under Falcons diving coach Kathy Kirk at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
Hoover, the state champ, is a freshman diver at the University of Akron. Haver, the state runner-up, is a freshman diver at Washington & Jefferson College.
