Notebook: This is sixth state final for the Fighting Irish football program and the first for the Redmen. ... St. V-M junior Junius has forced seven fumbles this season and recovered one. Irish freshmen Tyrece Speaight and Markus Hurd receive considerable playing time. Speaight starts as a safety and is a reserve running back. Hurd plays on special teams and is a reserve running back and defensive back. ... Irish senior kicker Dylan Labbe has converted 64-of-73 point-after-touchdown kicks and 4-of-6 field-goal attempts with a long of 27 yards. Sophomore Sean Devany has punted 34 times for 1,067 yards (31.3-yard average). ... St. V-M assistant coach Provie Tomei has been associated with the Irish’s four previous state championship victories under former coach John Cistone.
