Top area boys tennis players set to compete in district tournaments

The district boys tennis tournaments are set for this weekend and several area players are in the mix to earn a spot at the state tournament the following weekend in Columbus.

Here is a quick look at the area players who will be playing:

DIVISION I - At Oberlin College in Oberlin

Competition starts on Thursday at 9 a.m. and on Saturday at 9 a.m.

The following area players are in the singles bracket: Winston Davis, Perry; Austin Hanna, Cloverleaf; Joey Thomas, Jackson; Noah Hendrickson, Revere; Aaron Sandberg, Walsh Jesuit; Connor Varney, Medina; Jake Pukys, Louisville.

The following area players are in the doubles bracket: Andrew Ong and Gavin Aten of Copley; Mark Dickerhoof and Mark Spencer of Jackson; Matt Harris and Bharat Kumar of Revere; Bob Cross and Tim Bruin of North Canton Hoover; Gaven Cona and William Smith of Walsh Jesuit; Anthony Kanam and Jake Zalenski of Jackson and Matt Adzema and Nick Adzema of Copley. 

Note about last week: Sandberg won a sectional singles title at Medina and Thomas won a sectional singles title at Canton. Ong and Aten won a sectional doubles title at Medina and Kanam and Zalenski won a sectional doubles title at Canton.

DIVISION II - At Harvard Park in Canton

Competition starts on Friday at 9 a.m. and on Saturday at 9 a.m.

The following area players are in the singles bracket: Justin Bober, Archbishop Hoban; Alec Bird, St. Thomas Aquinas; Josh Reyes, St. Thomas Aquinas; Dakota Thomas, Orrville.

The following area players are in the doubles bracket: Conner Holloway and Bowe Anderson of CVCA; Cole Dusky and Colton Shrader of Orrville; David Blate and Brad Duplin of St. Thomas Aquinas; Carl Icsman and Marko Horattas of Archbishop Hoban and Mason Daily and Michael Murphy of Canton Central Catholic.

Note about last week: Bird won a sectional singles title at Wooster. Daily and Murphy won a sectional doubles title at Wooster.
