Twinsburg's Mesko drafted by Patriots with 150th pick
The New England Patriots drafted Twinsburg native Zoltan Mesko in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft with the 150th selection.
Mesko, a 6-foot-4 and 240 pound left-footed punter from the University of Michigan, led the Big 10 in 2009 with 52 punts for an average of 44.5 yards, a long of 66 yards and 15 inside the opponents 20-yard line.
Mesko had no punts blocked in four years as a Wolverine. He is the first specialist in school history to be elected team captain.
"Unfortunately, he might have been the best weapon Michigan had last year," NFL Network analyst Charles Davis said with a laugh.
NFL Network Rich Eisen added with a chuckle: "Unfortunately he was one of Michigan's most dynamic players."
Mesko, who emigrated with his family from war-torn Romania, speaks four languages. He also played basketball and competed in track and field at Twinsburg High School.
