Walsh girls soccer defeats DeSales 5-0 in Division II state final

Division II state girls soccer championship match
Who: Walsh Jesuit (20-0-2) vs. Columbus St. Francis DeSales (15-7-1).
What: Division II state final.
When: 3:30 p.m. today.
Where: Columbus Crew Stadium.
Coaches: Dino McIntyre of Walsh and Bob McGee of DeSales.
Pregame Notebook: Walsh enters its sixth state final under McIntyre following a 1-0 state semifinal win over Toledo St. Ursula Academy on Tuesday night at Sandusky Perkins. Sophomore Halle Stelbasky scored the Warriors’ goal. Senior Sandra Yu assisted on the goal. Yu leads Walsh in goals (15) and assists (19). Stelbasky and senior Kennedy Payne both have 14 goals for the Warriors, and senior Maddy John has 11 goals. DeSales defeated Indian Hill 1-0 in its state semifinal following a goal by senior Kerry McGuire. Each team features a sophomore goalkeeper, Libby Grace for Walsh and Katerina Barrett for DeSales. The Stallions won last year’s state title. The Warriors won state titles in 2000 and 2001 in Division II and in 2004, 2008 and 2010 in Division I. Walsh defeated DeSales 3-0 in a regular season meeting last month.
