Walsh Jesuit baseball ranked No. 1 in country
The Walsh Jesuit High School baseball team received the No. 1 overall ranking in the country for the first time in program history.
The Xcellent 25 Poll conducted by CBSSports/Maxpreps tabbed Walsh as the No. 1 team in the nation with a 12-0 record entering Thursday. Kevin Askeland of Maxpreps organized the poll.
Tyler Skulina, Johnny Fasola, Greg Greve, Ryan Berry, Patrick Ammar, Marco Caponi, Anthony Marotto and Zach O’Driscoll are the Warriors top seniors.
Juniors Nate Lundy, Tim Faix and Jake Nogalo are also key contributors for Walsh along with sophomores Michael Marsinek and Forrest Perron and freshman Cassidy Brown.
"We have taken advantage of our depth," Walsh coach Chris Kaczmar said. "We have gotten contributions from the top, middle and bottom of our batting lineup. Our starting pitchers and relievers have performed well too."
The Warriors are also currently ranked No. 2 nationally by Rivals.com, No. 3 by ESPNRise, No. 5 by Collegiate Baseball, No. 5 by USA Today, No. 9 by PerfectGameCrosschecker, and No. 13 by Baseball America.
Walsh’s previous high ranking was No. 6 nationally by USA Today in 2006 when Chad Rodgers and Bobby Simone led the Warriors to the Division II state title under Kaczmar, a Walsh graduate.
