Walsh Jesuit's Katie Meyer signs with Memphis
Walsh Jesuit senior Katie Meyer, 18, has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her academic and volleyball career with the University of Memphis.
Meyer, a 6-foot-3 middle blocker, was a three-year letter winner with the Warriors and a team captain during her senior season. She helped Walsh win district championships in 2007 and 2008, and to a regional runner up finish in 2009.
"Katie came into the past season with a new confidence and maturity about her," Walsh coach Missy Sturm said in a prepared statement. "She was one of the team’s hardest workers and a leader – on and off the court. Katie stepped up on many occasions, making key blocks and kills to help the team get a win.
"She was an ultimate team player who often asked what she could do to make a difference. Her work ethic, leadership and ability to inspire her teammates will be missed."
Meyer had 115 blocks (second best season total in the school history) and 52 solo blocks. She was recognized by the Akron Touchdown Club, which presented her with the Touchdown Club Sportsmanship Award, and she was an All-District Honorable Mention.
Meyer also won team awards: Coaches’ Award (2006), Most Improved Volleyball Player (2007), Most Blocks (2009), Captain’s Award (2009), and Unsung Warrior (2009).
