Walsh Jesuit senior Blake Jenkins commits to Bowling Green for baseball

By Michael Beaven Published: September 3, 2014

Walsh Jesuit senior baseball player Blake Jenkins has made a commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Bowling Green State University.

Jenkins, a center fielder and Hinckley resident, helped Walsh win North Coast League Blue Division championships in 2013 and 2014. The 2014 Walsh team compiled an undefeated regular season, was ranked No. 3 in the CBS MaxPreps Xcellent 50 national baseball rankings and then lost to Hudson in a Division I district final.

Jenkins earned the Most Valuable Player Award for the 2014 NCL season, and was also named first team All-Ohio and first-team All-Inland Northeast District. He compiled a batting average of .507 as a junior with six home runs and 37 runs batted in.

“Blake possesses such an abundant set of tools across the board and truly has a great deal of potential,” Walsh coach said Chris Kaczmar said. “He is just a superb athlete who not only gets the most out of himself on the field, but is also an extremely hard worker that is passionate about making improvements every day.

“He is exceptional on both sides of the ball, and is truly a very versatile and athletically gifted player. We have had some tremendous center fielders during the course of my tenure, and he ranks right there with the best. His combination of power and explosiveness is extraordinary, and he has become a good friend and an asset to Walsh Jesuit baseball in many ways.”

Jenkins is the sixth baseball player from the Walsh Class of 2015 to commit to a Division I school.
