Wheeler, Utley & Heflin qualify for NCAA wrestling championships
Three wrestlers from an area high school have qualified for the NCAA Division I wrestling championships, which will be contested from Thursday through Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.
The three competitors are Ohio State red-shirt junior Nick Heflin (Perry), North Carolina sophomore Alex Utley (Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and Kent State red-shirt freshman Sam Wheeler (Copley).
Heflin, Utley and Wheeler are each five wins from being a national champion.
Wheeler and Heflin are wrestling at 174 pounds and Utley is at 184 pounds. Wheeler and Heflin could compete against each other in the second round if they win first round matches.
All three won a wrestling state title as a senior at their respective school.
