Rix tops Nemec
SVSM freshman Michael Rix won the bought by a 9-1 major decision over Paige Nemec to advance into Saturday's semifinals.
In order for Nemec to advance to state now she will have to win through consolations.
If she wins her first two consolation matches today she will have to face the loser between the semifinal of Streetsboro sophomore Cory Stainbrook, no.2 in the Brakeman report, or Coventry sophomore Jesse Gunter, No.5, in a “go-to state” match.
``You are going to have to beat somebody to get out. It’s that simple,’’ Wrobel said. ``It’s a tough district. She knows that and the team knows that. You are going to have to beat someone in order to qualify for the state tournament.’’
Here are the 103-pound semifinal match ups:
103: Mike Rix, SVSM, vs. Sean Fee, Lake Catholic; Cory Stainbrook, Streetsboro, vs. Jesse Gunter, Coventry.

It happened earlier but...
the 125 pound weight class offers some really intriguing second round match ups. Most notably: Kenston junior Tre Smith vs. Canfield junior Robby Reed.
Smith is the No.6 rated wrestler in the Brakeman report and pinned Fairless junior Travis Raper in the opening round. Reed is the No. 9 wrestler on the Brakeman report and pinned Harvey senior Victor Plesnicar in 1:35 to advance.
Walsh Jesuit junior Johnni DiJulius, the defending champion who is picked to repeat, will face West Branch junior Chad Hupp in the second round. Hupp is No. 16 on the Brakeman Report.
Lousiville senior Brad Kress pulled off a mild upset over Lake Catholic senior Jeff Holy in the first round with an 11-1 major decision.

While the internet was down...
Kenmore senior Cody Lamberg (171) and University school seniors Harrison Hightower(152) and Brad Wukie (160) all dominated their first rounds opponents for easy wins. All are expected to be major factors, if not champions, next week.

103 is loaded with talent. Semifinals will provide intriguing match ups
Seeding didn’t do Crestwood senior Paige Nemec any favors in the 103 pound weight class. Nemec, the champion of the West Branch sectional, earned a major decision over Jefferson Area freshman Ricker Maple in the opening round.
But her second round match has turned into a near, must win situation against St. V-M freshman Mike Rix, who is ranked fourth in the Brakeman Report. Nemec is ranked 11.
Who ever loses the match will, more than likely, have to face either Streetsboro sophomore Cory Stainbrook, no.2 in the Brakeman report, or Coventry sophomore Jesse Gunter, No.5, in a “go-to” match.
Stainbrook and Gunter would have to win their second round matches tto make the scenario possible. And Rix or Nemec would have to win two rounds of consolations. Either way it looks like one of the four will have their seasons end this weekend.
