Aurora-based TCP promotes Joseph Colant, 39, who rose through ranks in nine years to sales VP

TCP Inc. in Aurora, which calls itself the world's largest maker of energy-saving light bulbs, named Joseph Colant as president Tuesday.
Colant was promoted from vice president of sales and marketing to what is a new position for the company.
The owner and chief executive, Ellis Yan, will remain CEO.
TCP said Colant has helped the company produce a 75 percent growth rate in sales. Yan said in a prepared statement that he expects Colant will be even more valuable in his role as president.
''I'm excited and up to the challenge,'' said Colant, 39, a native of Green and graduate of the University of Akron.
The new position means Colant will be more involved in the daily operations of the company. He will lead the sales, marketing, customer service, distribution, product management and engineering departments. He will also direct lighting-technology research and areas of growth.
''My number one goal is to really get a better understanding of what everybody contributes to the daily operation, to give them support and see how we can continue to grow in our business,'' Colant said.
He has worked for TCP for more than nine years, starting as a commercial sales manager.
The new job also means Colant will not travel as much to China, where the company has four plants.
The company recently expanded its facility in Aurora because of increased demand.
The company said it makes 1 million compact fluorescent lamps a day for commercial, industrial and residential customers. TCP employs 205 in Aurora and 13,000 in China.
The privately owned company says it holds a 70 percent market share of compact fluorescent lamps sold in the United States under a variety of brands. Last year, sales were $152 million, TCP said.
