Beacon Journal staff report
The Fund for Our Economic Future the initiative that unites philanthropic organizations in an effort to help transform the region's economy has added another partner.
Case Western Reserve University became the sixth higher education institution in the region to join the collaborative as a voting member of the fund, committing to $100,000 over three years. (The University of Akron and Kent State University also are voting members.)
John Wheeler, the universi
ty's vice president of Cleveland and regional affairs, called the Fund an ''invaluable resource for Northeast Ohio.''
''As a premier research institution, we intend to remain at the forefront of the innovation and technology agenda that is so vital to our economic revival,'' he said.
Fund Chairman David Abbott said Case plays an important role in building the regional economy because it is one of the nation's leading research institutions.
''Case Western Reserve University will provide the fund with important insight as we work to accelerate research and commercialization efforts in the region, and to help prepare, attract and retain a more highly educated work force in Northeast Ohio,'' he added.
The fund has now raised more than $29 million for its second, three-year phase of work.
That phase, called Advance Northeast Ohio, is focusing on four areas: business attraction and growth, talent development, racial and economic inclusion, and government collaboration and efficiency.
