Money coach Carla Davis' comments

On Michael and MaryBeth Andrews' problem being ''cash-poor'' and relying on credit for a temporary loan and paying it off within the month:

''If they make the changes suggested, they may be able to have an extra cushion to try to get ahead.''

On the high cost of gasoline from their budget:

''They're not really having hard times. Once she gets the part-time job, she might realize they not only need it for entertainment, but extra for the budget.''

On possibly using some of their savings to pay down their $10,000 in credit-card debt:

In general:

''They're on the right path. They've already got their IRAs and 401(k)s in place for retirement. A lot of people don't do that.''
