Ohioans warned of telephone scam

The Ohio Department of Insurance is warning consumers to be aware of telephone calls saying there is a problem accessing the consumer's insurance payment. Consumers are asked for personal information, such as Social Security number or date of birth.

Director Mary Jo Hudson said consumers should talk to their personal agent about policies.

Also, call the insurance carrier to ask if a phone call was legitimate.

Do not give out personal information.

The telephone line to report suspected fraud is 1-800-686-1527.
