Magazine in limbo

RightUp Media LLC, a Cleveland company that owns Northern Ohio Live magazine, is closing, but the fate of the magazine is still undecided, publisher Steve Casey said. Casey said he couldn't comment about possible scenarios, but a decision could be made by next week.
Northern Ohio Live, which launched in 1980, publishes six times a year, focusing on arts, entertainment and lifestyle.
Event to discuss
Ohio's wind energy
Manufacturing suppliers who want to learn more about Ohio's emerging wind energy industry are invited to a Thursday event hosted by the Canton chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.
The dinner program — which begins with registration at 5:30 p.m — is at Shady Hollow Country Club, 4865 Wales Road NW in Massillon. The cost is $25.
There will be an overview of the potential that wind energy holds for the region, followed by the dissection of a wind turbine while discussing supply chain needs.
The presentation will be given by J. Matthew Garran, technical director for the Great Lakes Wind Network.
Falls business group honors two people
The Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce has named its 2009 Business Person of the Year and Citizen of the Year.
Bob Earley, the business honoree, operates Rockin' on the River, has helped collect $200,000 for nonprofits in the past six years, and led a grass-roots effort to collect $33,000 so Cuyahoga Falls students wouldn't have to pay to play sports at school.
Jeff Iula, the citizen honoree, is a lifelong resident and general manager of the All-American Soap Box Derby. He also serves on several local committees and boards.

get Cisco approval
Summit Data Communications, an Akron-based provider of wireless cards for mobile devices in challenging environments, said it is among the first to be approved for Cisco Systems-compatibility in medical equipment.
Summit parts have been certified for Version 4 of Cisco Compatible Extensions for use in two Philips PageWriter cardiographs. CCX is a program that tests how well Wi-Fi client devices work with products from the global networking giant.
Akron lawyer to lead
Ohio legal group
Akron attorney Carmen V. Roberto became the Ohio State Bar Association's president-elect at the annual convention in Cleveland. He will take office July 1, 2010.
Roberto practices with the Akron firm of Bernlohr Wertz, in the area of criminal defense and civil litigation.
Allstate turns down
government bailout
Allstate Corp., which has operations in Hudson, became the second insurer to turn down a bailout from the Treasury Department after being approved for government funding .
The property and casualty insurer said it has strong capital and liquidity positions.
The Northbrook, Ill.-based company was among six insurers approved by the Treasury to receive government aid.
