Myers Industries hires chief operating officer

By Beacon Journal staff

Akron-based plastics maker and tool distributor Myers Industries Inc. has a new chief operating officer.

The company announced today that David B. Knowles, 48, president and chief executive of manufacturer Aristech Acrylics LLC since 2003, is Myers' new COO and executive vice president effective immediately.

Knowles will be responsible for all manufacturing and distribution operations, sales, marketing, research and development and supply chain functions, the company said in a statement. Myers reported 2008 net sales of $867.8 million.

John Orr, Myers' president and chief executive officer, was the the company's previous COO.

''David brings to Myers Industries an extensive operating background in the plastic materials and specialty products arena,'' Orr said in a statement. ''His leadership success in business development, sales and market share growth, lean manufacturing and organizational development will be an asset as we focus on the growth strategy in our businesses.''

Florence, Ky.-based Aristech Acrylics makes acrylic sheet and solid surface products used in bathtubs, hot tubs, signage, countertops and more.

Myers Industries said that under Knowles' leadership, Aristech Acrylics transformed its solid surface product line into a high-growth, branded solid surface business.

It said the company had improved margins and cash flow in what it called a difficult raw material and economic environment.

Myers said Aristech made its Avonite Surfaces brand the fastest growing in the North American solid surface market.

Prior to joining Aristech, Knowles was vice president and general manager for Honeywell's Performance Products business, where he earned a Six Sigma Plus Leadership Black Belt.

From 1991 to 2000, Knowles held positions with the former M.A. Hanna Co., now PolyOne Corp., including director, corporate development; senior director, corporate strategy and development; and executive vice president and president of the company's $500 million resin distribution business.

He has a master's degree in management from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan.

There is no reason to believe Myers Stockholders (money marketers) appointing a new Chief Operating Officer. This will NOT enable workers, consumers, taxpayers, and Americas grandchildren’s children to pay for the more stock dividends (money) Myers Stockholders market quarterly in the wholesale and retail price of Myers product and service. With money derived from wages or independent business profit!
