Chrysler plans to include more car TV stations

Bloomberg News

Chrysler Group LLC, the automaker run by Italy's Fiat SpA, plans to boost the number of television stations available in its vehicles to as many as 20 from 3.

The optional system will cost $629 plus installation, which includes a one-year subscription, Chrysler said Thursday.

The service, provided by Qualcomm Inc. unit FLO TV, will be offered starting in December.

Chrysler is expanding the service as it tries to stem a 40 percent drop in U.S. vehicle sales this year through September, the most among majorautomakers.

FLO TV competes with a three-channel, in-vehicle television service provided by Sirius XM Radio Inc., which Chrysler will continue to offer.

FLO TV features channels such as CBS Mobile, CNBC, Comedy Central, Fox News, MSNBC, NBC 2Go and Nickelodeon. The service could be available in more than 100 major markets and along many interstate highways by the end of this year, Chrysler said.

Watching TV while you are driving sounds like a terrific idea and should give us aid in thinning out the herd. Bravo!
