The United Steelworkers of America and Fairlawn-based Republic Engineered Products reached a tentative contract Thursday, involving about 2,000 hourly workers in Canton, Massillon, Lorain, Gary, Ind., and Lackawanna, N.Y.
The union said it secured a significant wage increase, improved pension contributions, added a holiday, included health-care coverage for laid-off workers and improved profit sharing and contract language.
If local union presidents approve the tentative agreement, summaries will be distributed, followed by informational meetings and then ratification votes.
