Barra: Can’t explain why GM bought switches not meeting standard

General Motors Co. used ignition switches in small cars that didn’t meet the company’s specifications, Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra told a U.S. House committee.

“Why in the world would a company with the stellar reputation as GM purchase a part that didn’t meet specifications?” Representative Joe Barton, a Texas Republican, asked Barra.

“I want to know that just as much as you do,” Barra said.

“It’s not the way GM does business.”
