Kent-based Carter Lumber has promoted three of its executives in an effort to support the company’s long-term growth strategy.
Jeff Donley has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of the lumberyard and building materials supplier with operations in 11 states. In Northeast Ohio, the company employs 540 and 2,700 overall. As president, Donley is the first non-Carter family member to hold the position.
Neil Sackett, whose grandfather, Warren E. Carter, co-founded the Carter Jones Lumber Company in Akron in 1932 with T. Neil Jones, will remain chairman and CEO of the company. Sackett previously also held the president title.
In a news release, Sackett said “in leading the operations of the company over the last several years, Jeff has clearly defined our business model, implemented successful strategies to lead the company and surrounded himself with a team that will get the job done. I’m proud of the work these people have done and look forward to a bright future.”
Donley has been with Carter Lumber since 1995 and has served in a variety of management positions including risk manager, chief financial officer and most recently as senior vice president and chief operating officer. He is responsible for all Carter-Jones units, including corporate strategy plans. In his new role, he will continue to report to Sackett.
In another promotion, Jeff Seder is now senior vice president. Seder will be responsible for all finance, credit, technology and all other corporate functions. Seder joined Carter Lumber in 1984 through the acquisition of Z&L Lumber in Pittsburgh and has held a variety of positions including technology manager and vice president of technology, credit and finance.
The company said it realigned Carter Lumber store operations and created a new position to handle the responsibilities. Kip Gleckler, a 22-year Carter employee, was named to the new position of senior vice president for field operations. District managers and manufacturing divisions will report to Gleckler.
He started as a sales associate in Toledo, and has held store manager, district manager and most recently regional vice president positions.
The company said Seder and Gleckler will work together and report to Donley.
