Delphi retirees call for pensions in Ohio rally

Associated Press

DAYTON, OHIO: At least 300 Delphi retirees from across Ohio and Indiana have staged a public rally to get their full pensions restored.

The Dayton Daily News reports that the rally Thursday builds on what the retirees see as new momentum in their three-year struggle to get their full pensions from the former automotive parts supplier. The effort has included a pending federal lawsuit, congressional probe and increased public awareness.

In July 2009, a then-bankrupt Delphi surrendered its pension obligations to the federally backed Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. That resulted in pension payments that were 30 to 70 percent lower than the retirees expected.

Nationally, about 21,000 Delphi salaried workers and retirees were affected by the cuts. The rally was staged at a closed Delphi plant in Dayton.
