I've shopped at six different Walgreens in the past three months and it seems no two assistant managers interpret the rules of the chain's reward programs the same way.
So Walgreens spokeswoman Vivika Vergara offered to settle some issues I've had in recent weeks.
Keep this guide handy in case you run into the same problems:
• If you receive a Register Reward, you may use it immediately for your next transaction. ''It could be in five minutes or five days, as long as it's not the same order you receive it in and it has not expired,'' Vergara said.
• You may use a manufacturer's coupon on a deal that issues a Register Reward.
• You may use two or more Register Rewards in the same transaction, as long as the number of items in your transaction equals or exceeds your total number of coupons.
• You can use both a manufacturer's coupon and a Walgreens Instant Value Coupon clipped from the Easy Saver catalog or the weekly flier on a single item.
• Store employees cannot decide a customer did not deserve a Register Reward issued by a transaction. ''If a coupon comes out at the time of sale, it should go to the customer,'' Vergara said.
• To use a special discount coupon (i.e., $5 off a $25 purchase), your transaction must total $25 or more after all discounts and coupons are applied.
• If you use a Register Reward from a promotion to pay for another transaction with that same promotion, you will not be issued a new Register Reward.
• If you run into any issues you can't resolve, call customer service at 877-250-5823.
