Herbert USA in Akron plans to expand and has purchased two side-by-side industrial properties on Industrial Parkway, off Tallmadge Avenue, on the city’s north side.
The company plans to sell its existing headquarters and manufacturing facility around the corner at 850 Moe Drive.
Herbert USA, a manufacturer of passenger and light truck tire molds for U.S. tire companies, said it plans to expand into manufacturing of larger molds used to make tires for heavy equipment machinery. “We’ve outgrown our current building,” which is about 20,000 square feet, said Mario R. Vargas, director of manufacturing and sales. The properties at 1460 and 1480 Industrial Parkway total about 73,000 square feet. The company initially will locate in the 1480 Industrial Parkway building, leaving the other building for future expansion in possibly 2015.
Herbert USA has 51 employees and plans to add workers, bringing its payroll to 75 workers next year. Todd Jarvis is general manager.
The company is the U.S. operation of Herbert, a German company that is one of the largest maker of molds in the world.
Tom Fox, with NAI Cummins real estate of Akron, handled the sale of the Industrial Parkway properties and is listing the building at 850 Moe Drive at a price of $850,000.
Herbert paid $1.175 million for the Industrial Parkway buildings, according to Summit County property records.
Herbert USA grew out of Herbert Maschinenbau GmbH & Co.’s acquisition in 2003 of mold company Barron & Benson Inc. of Akron.
