Dick’s Sporting Goods announced its newly constructed store in the Chapel Hill area will have a grand opening at 10 a.m. Sunday.

The store at 498 Howe Ave. relocated from its longtime location on Buchholzer Boulevard across from Sam’s Club. The new location is part of The Plaza at Chapel Hill.

Dick’s, a publicly traded company based in Pittsburgh, has 37 stores in Ohio and 546 companywide.

Officials said the new location has 50,000 square feet of space, with what it called “hands-on” experiences available in its bicycle, lodge and golf departments. That includes a golf simulator, a club fitting center, putting green, an archery lane with an on-site bow technician, and bike safety inspections, custom fittings, tune-ups and assembly.

Promotions for the grand opening include a gift card giveaway in varying denominations from $5 to $500 (one card at $500).

“We’re pleased to be opening an expanded and enhanced Dick’s Sporting Goods … which will enable us to better serve the needs of athletes in the community,” said senior vice president and chief marketing officer Lauren Hobart.

The company said more information is available online at www.facebook.com/dicks
