Forum on oil and gas in Stark on Jan. 30

A former Pennsylvania county commissioner will speak to the Stark County Oil and Gas Partnership on Jan. 30.

Rebecca Burke, a former Lycoming County official, will discuss the local impacts, benefits and opportunities created since 2007 by the energy industry drilling in the Marcellus shale near Williamsport, Pa.

The “Choose Stark” event will begin at 5 p.m. at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.

Other speakers include Rebecca Heimlich from the American Petroleum Institute, who will address several issues in connection with the development of the Utica shale in eastern Ohio.

Canton Mayor William Healy will speak on the impacts of the oil and gas industry in the city.

A representative of Chesapeake Energy Corp. will discuss the company’s presence in Stark County.

The meeting is being sponsored by the Ohio Petroleum Council, an arm of the API.

The meeting is open to the public.

Tickets are $20 a person and include food, beverage and admission to the Canton Charge basketball game that night.
