The doctors let loose Saturday night at the eighth annual Docs Who Rock.
The United Way of Summit County’s physician talent show was held at E. J. Thomas Hall. The event, which is sponsored by the University of Akron and Akron General Medical Center, showcases the musical talents of local doctors.
Dr. Terry Gordon dressed up as the Native American from the Village People, singing YMCA and then reappearing as Lady Gaga.
“I’m a former patient of Dr. Gordon,” said John Robinson, who said that he and his wife, Cindy Robinson, love music.
Ken and Marti Johnson have gone to the event for the last five years. Kathy Prebonick and Cathy Shimko wanted to support their guitar-playing boss, Dr. Rick Brower.
Committee members this year included John Ashley, Janet Fashbaugh, Jody Gildersleeve, Andrea Hinton, Charles Korecki, Kari Mancuso, Lisa Ogrin, Andi Reed and Marilyn Schmidt.
“We’ve gotten better at creating a more high-quality, professional show,” organizer Michael Gaffney said.
Harry Ostapowicz made a repeat performance on the drums with his group, the Chrome Brothers.
“It’s going to be a great show for a great cause,” he said.
Fellow Chrome Brother Chris Kenyon added, “I’m not sure anyone else is doing original music like we are.” Lisa and Rodger Killingsworth enjoyed the music.
Joe Verheyen was there to support his sister, Dee Dee Reish, who sang with the band, Big Adventure. His wife, Amy Verheyen, and son Adam Verheyen also attended, as well as daughter Bethany Nelson and her husband, Ryan Nelson.
Don and Susan Welch agreed that they were looking forward to a relaxing evening with friends Tony and Connie VanGilder. Margaret Sell, Melissa Casserman and Anthony Benson handed out glow sticks to the guests.
The winning band was Code Blues.
