Brandon Rice, formerly of Kent, will be inducted into The Honors College at The University of Arizona on October 20, 2007. He is enrolled in The College of Fine Art's Media Arts Program which offers pre-professional and professional education at the undergraduate level with Bachelor of Arts programs in Aesthetics and Criticism, and Producing, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts program in Production.Rice is a 2007 transfer student to U of A. He graduated May 2007 from The Zaki Gordon Institute for Independent Filmmaking in Sedona, AZ earning his third Certificate(Advanced Program - pictured). In 2006, he earned his Certificate in Documentary Filmmaking and was awarded Best Director, Documentary Film. In 2005, he earned his Narrative Filmmaking Certificate; awardes mentioned below. Zaki Gordon Institute for Independent Filmmaking is a part of Yavapai College, Northern Arizona University, and was founded by Dan Gordon, Los Angeles, California.
HONORS & SCHOLARSHIPS
Brandon Rice was the 2006 Award Winner of Zaki Gordon Institute Best Director Documentary Film for the Student Short Film “The Demiurge” which is based on David Lynch Foundation. The Demiurge also won Best Actress and Rice was nominated for Best Producer Documentary Film. The Demiurge is currently under contract.
Rice's narrative thesis film, "Shutter" won nomination for Best Screenplay Narrative Film at the 2005 Zaki Gordon Shorts Festival and
was accepted at the 2005 Sedona International Film Festival. Shutter is a Feature at the Second Tuesday Cinema Series at the Sedona Harkins Theatre and at CenterPoint Theater in Tempe, AZ. Shutter was accepted at 2006 Sedona International Film Festival; in addition to 2006 TucsonFilms.com Shorts Festival. Shutter is posted on YouTube.

and 2006 recipient of Yavapai College General Education Scholarship. He was enrolled at The Honor's College at Yavapai College and listed on The Dean's List.
Brandon graduated from Roosevelt High School in 2001 with an Honors Diploma and earned the Trustee's Scholarship at Kent State University. He was enrolled at Kent State University's Honor's College and The College of Fine and Professional Arts Department of Communication and attended from Summer 2001 - Spring 2002. During his tenure at KSU, he was Director of "What's New at KSU".
Brandon left KSU to pursue film studies out west in 2002. He enrolled at The Zaki Gordon Institute for Independent Filmmaking in 2003 then became ill and hospitalized for left-sided pneumothorax postponing his studies until 2004.
Brandon is the son of Steve Rice, Scottsdale AZ. His mother, Gerontologist Karen Rice, LNHA, a long-time resident of Kent, is Founder of Alzheimer's & Family Care Management, a part of the Kent Small Business Development Center, Incubator and Women's Small Business Center since 1994. In 2005, Karen became a Sedona "snowbird" to met the need of assisting Brandon with production of Shutter then subsequent film productions. In 2006, she extended her professional outreach and opened Alzheimer Mediation For Dementia Conflict to serve Arizona's Verde Valley. Karen is contracted with OhioKePro, The Centers for Medicare and Medicade Services in Seven Hills, Ohio as a mediator and facilitator.
