POSTED: 01:04 p.m. EDT, May 19, 2008
The Akron Beacon Journal's Our Space, which publishes every Monday during the school year, is currently looking for some fresh, new high school writers for the upcoming year. The Our Space staff, consisting of 30 high school students in the surrounding area, meets at the Beacon Journal once a month during the school year and learns about journalism while brainstorming ideas for the page. Writers also get to meet the newspaper's staff, tour the building and participate in several other exciting activities that will further develop their knowledge of journalism.
The Our Space staffers alternate writing staff editorials and feature articles every week, and each member gets the chance to try both styles of writing.
If you are an interested student attending a high school in Summit, Stark, Portage, Wayne or Medina County, you must apply before September 12, 2008. To obtain an application, contact Colleen Benson, Newspaper in Education Coordinator, at 330-996-3635 or e-mail cbenson@thebeaconjournal.com.
