(CLEVELAND, OHIO) When 17-year-old Stephen Beirne was first introduced to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, he thought carefully about what his wish might be. He soon decided that having his writings turned into a book would be the perfect wish for him. The Hudson, Ohio youth was diagnosed with Chordoma, a rare tumor that occurs in the spine and the base of skull, in 2005. To pass the time during his long hospital stays, Stephen wrote and created a book for his personal enjoyment – now he hopes to share the story with others. With the help of the Learned Owl Book Store in Hudson, Ohio and store owner, Liz Murphy, a call was sent to the store’s contacts, and Denise Dolence, Creative Director, Special Markets for Harper Collins answered the call to duty and went above and beyond all expectations volunteering time, talent and organizing a team of publishing professionals to help grant Stephen’s wish to have his works published.
Not only were the time and talents of many Harper Collins employees donated, but printers, Command Web and Phoenix Color donated their services, printing 3,000 copies of the book. Stephen's book November Reign hits the Learned Owl bookshelves this week. Additionally the Learned Owl will help launch, promote and carry the book for sale with all the proceeds benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation at Stephen’s request. Also at Stephen’s request, each student at his school will receive a copy at the school launch party set for September 11th, 2008. November Reign will also be distributed to participants of the 16th Annual Make-A-Wish® Foundation and Medical Mutual of Ohio Walk For Wishes at the Cleveland Zoo on June 28th, 2008.
About the book: When a traveler arrives at the Inn and tells the story of great treasure, most think it to be a fireside tale. But Eamon believes that it's true. He risks his life and the lives of his two best friends on a quest to find the riches. Is his desire for treasure and adventure worth more than the bonds of friendship? Will he have the courage to conquer the challenges that he'll face? It's hard to imagine how much life can change in twelve short days.
November Reign is available for purchase exclusively at the Learned Owl Book Store in Hudson Ohio, and online at www.learnedowl.com, selling at $9.95 in stores and an additional $6 for any being shipped.
