Give a book to a child this holiday season, and give them the world

Give a book to a child this holiday season, and give them the world

Remember the excitement of unwrapping your favorite storybook on Christmas morning, then climbing into mom or dad’s lap so they could read to you, while you marveled at the beautiful images?

In some parts of the greater Akron area, children live in homes where there are no age-appropriate books, none to call their own. According to a recent study, there is just one book for every 300 children in low-income neighborhoods, compared to 13 books for every one child in middle-income neighborhoods.

First Book of Greater Akron, the local chapter of a national nonprofit organization, has partnered with The Learned Owl in Hudson to sponsor a “giving tree,” where each ornament indicates the title of a children’s book. Simply take one of the tags, purchase the book, and The Learned Owl and First Book will make sure it gets in the hands of a local child who will cherish not only the gift, but also the opportunity and wonder it holds.

For more information, contact The Learned Owl at 204 N. Main St., Hudson, 330- 653-2252, or Chuck Bell, president of First Book of Greater Akron, at chuckbell3096@hotmail.com.
