The Bridgestone Americas scholarship program (formerly The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company scholarship program) has been in place since 1953, making advanced educational opportunities available to children of employees.
In 1983 the Company entered into an agreement with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to administer the scholarship program and in 1996 an agreement was made to award up to 50 total scholarships each year nationwide.
Student recipients are chosen on the basis of outstanding academic records, leadership, test scores, significant contributions to the school and community and on the recommendation of high school counselors.
This year fifty sons and daughters of Bridgestone Americas, Inc. teammates have been selected as winners the scholarship program. The scholarship is a one-time $4,000 award.
Ten winners are from the Akron area and were honored at a luncheon at the Akron Technical Center on Thursday, May 28th.
