Dr. Gregg DiGiulio named director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Akron Children's Hospital

UPublish story by Holly

AKRON, Ohio (July 6, 2009) – Concluding a national search that began in late 2008, Gregg DiGiulio, MD, has been named director of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Dr. DiGiulio will oversee all aspects of Akron Children’s Emergency Medicine program, including the day-to-day operations of clinical sites at the hospital’s main campus in downtown Akron, one of the busiest pediatric ERs in the country, as well as those at its Beeghly campus in the Mahoning Valley, at Akron Children’s at Hudson, and a new pediatric emergency department scheduled to open this summer in Copley Township, a joint venture with Akron General Health System.

Dr. DiGiulio has served as chief of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital in Cleveland since 2006. Prior to that, he served as medical director of the Emergency department and developed an urgent care network at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

“Dr. Gregg DiGiulio has a strong interest in quality and process improvement, medical education and clinical research,” said Norman Christopher, MD, chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Akron Children’s Hospital. “He is well prepared to support and advance Akron Children’s Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, as well the hospital’s regional growth.”

A resident of Westlake, Dr. DiGiulio earned his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.

Dr. DiGiulio succeeds Dr. Christopher, who directed Akron Children’s Division of Emergency Medicine for 14 years before accepting his new post in August 2008.
