AKRON, Ohio (November 9, 2009) – Cassandra Hirsh, DO, has joined the Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care Center at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Hirsh attended the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pa., and completed her residency in pediatrics and her fellowship in pediatric palliative care at Akron Children’s.

She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine.

The Haslinger Family Pediatric Palliative Care Center was established in July 2002 as the first northeast Ohio hospital-based pediatric palliative care center. The center cares for patients of all ages – from newborns to young adults – facing any chronic, complex or life-threatening illness, as well as their families.

The center’s multi-disciplinary team includes physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, therapists, dietitians, bereavement counselors and other specialists who can coordinate care, assist with pain management, and address the psycho-social needs of patients and their parents, siblings and other loved ones.
