Singers Companye will be representing the United States at the 41st Annual International Choral Competition in Tolosa, Spain. The chamber chorus will be competing against choirs from Slovenia, China, France, Australia, Japan, Italy and more. Considered the “contest of contests”, the Grand Prix is made up of winners from competitions in Arezzo (Italy), Gorizia (Italy), Debrecen (Hungary), Tours (France), Varna (Bulgary) and Tolosa (Spain).
The Singers Companye will be performing two preview concerts prior to leaving for the competition. October 16 at 8:00 pm at Fairlawn Lutheran 3415 W. Market St. Fairlawn, OH
October 18 at 4:00 pm at Bath UCC 3980 W. Bath Rd., Akron, OH. Tickets are Adults $12, Seniors $7 and Students with ID $ 5. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Market Path 833 W. Market St., Akron (330-258-9003), by calling 330-421-7782, and at the door.
Singers Companye is an ensemble of singers consisting of professional musicians from northeast Ohio. Samuel Gordon founded the ensemble in 2000 in order to provide singers with the opportunity to not only sing great choral works for chamber choir from virtually every period of musical composition, but to explore the popular and folk music of many cultures. Singers Companye was choir-in-residence for the 2008 edition of Corofest in Assisi, Italy. Prior to the two-week tour of Italy, the ensemble sang as part of the Music at the Farmstead series, a unique music festival in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park near Akron, OH. The singers performed Where Earth Meets Sky:The Native American Experience for the 2009 William Nelson Cromwell and F. Lammot Belin Concert Season at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The summer of 2010 will find them as a resident ensemble at the Amalfi Coast Music Festival (Italy). Performances have included the Kulas Series at the University of Akron and a concert at St. John’s Cathedral in Cleveland. The group performs their concert season at multiple locations in northeast Ohio and currently enjoys a residency at The University of Akron.
