Beacon Journal staff report
The decomposed bodies of a woman and a young child were discovered over the weekend in a wooded residential area in Tallmadge, authorities said Sunday night.
The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office is performing autopsies today to identify the bodies and determine a cause of death, a representative for the office said.
He said the child appears to be about 5 years old, but the gender hasn’t been confirmed.
The remains were discovered by Tallmadge police Saturday in a wooded area behind a home in the 500 block of Stone Creek Drive, according to the medical examiner’s office.
Tallmadge Police Lt. Ron Williams told Cleveland television station WJW (Fox 8) that officials have been investigating a suspicious missing person case in the home.
Neighbors told WJW that a woman and her young son who live in the home haven’t been seen for a few weeks. Read the WJW article here.
The level of decomposition indicates the woman likely had been dead for several weeks before her remains were discovered, the Medical Examiner’s Office representative said. “It was nothing but basically bones left.”
Tallmadge police couldn’t be reached Sunday evening.
