It takes a walk in the woods to get a good look at the future of the Portage Park District. Just two years ago, the district was operating on a shoestring budget, with development of more outdoor recreational space grinding to a halt. This was happening just as suburban development was beginning to close off options to acquire and protect large blocs of land, especially in the western part of the county.
