Summit County’s network of multipurpose trails is expanding with the construction of a link from Middlebury Road at the Stow-Kent border to Southwest Avenue in Tallmadge.
The Freedom Trail will follow an old rail line. Eventually, it will extend into Akron, connecting to the Northside Station, an easy ride from the Towpath Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley. Metro Parks, Serving Summit County, expects work on the Kent-Tallmadge part of the trail to be done by mid-December.
The Akron area is fortunate to have such an extensive park system. The foresight of planners promises to pay off in the long run by improving the health and quality of life in the region.
