Hard to overstate the role of volunteers in the operation of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. You can point to their numbers, 460, and the hours they invest, 8,733 last year on trail projects. Yet that barely begins to tell the story of their contribution.
The park hardly is overflowing with money, or looking for things the volunteers can do. Their work is essential, from repairing and replacing signs to removing downed trees and rerouting trails. The park would not be the place it is without those volunteers preparing the way for the 2.2 million recreational visitors a year.
