Opera lovers (including me) went crazy for last year's high-definition broadcasts beamed out live from the Metropolitan Opera to movie theaters around the world. Good news: The HD broadcasts will return this year. Regal Cinemas Montrose Stadium 12 will begin its broadcasts with Romeo et Juliette on Dec. 15.
Donors who give $125 or more to the Metropolitan Opera have first crack at buying tickets, now through Nov. 8. Tickets go on sale to the public Nov. 9 at the Regal Montrose box office, 4020 Medina Road, Copley Township, or the Fandango Web site, http://www.fandango.com. Adult tickets cost $22; seniors, $20; and children, $15.
Here's the schedule:
1-4:30 p.m. Dec. 15: Gounod's Romeo et Juliette with Anna Netrebko as Juliette and Placido Domingo conducting.
1-3:35 p.m. Jan. 1: Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, new English-language production with Alice Coote, Christine Schaefer and Philip Langridge.
1-4:50 p.m. Jan. 12: Verdi's Macbeth, with James Levine conducting and baritone Lado Ataneli in the title role.
1-4:41 p.m. Feb. 16: Puccini's Manon Lescaut, starring Karita Mattila and Marcello Giordani. James Levine conducts.
12:30-6:05 p.m. March 22: Wagner's Tristan und Isolde, with James Levine conducting Deborah Voigt, Michelle DeYoung, Ben Heppner, Eike Wilm Schulte and Matti Salminen.
1:30-4:50 p.m. April 5: Puccini's La Boheme, Franco Zeffirelli's production. Angela Gheorghiu and Ramon Vargas star as Mimi and Rudolfo.
1:30-4:40 p.m. April 26: Donizetti's Le Fille du Regiment, in a new production starring Natalie Dessay and Juan Diego Florez.
