Q: I am trying to find the movie The Ghost of McGlowry Castle. It's the tale of a Scottish soldier who was killed in battle. Somehow, the rumor got started that he was a coward, so he couldn't go to heaven but was condemned to haunt his family castle until he could redeem himself. I think Douglas Fairbanks Sr. starred in it. There was another movie out with a similar premise, but it's a silly one, and MY movie is a romantic drama.
A: It appears that you are looking for a 1935 movie called The Ghost Goes West, starring Robert Donat who had some of the dash of the Fairbanks, both father and son as a Scottish ghost named Glourie. (The silly movie you remember is probably one of the versions of The Canterville Ghost.) The Ghost Goes West has been released on VHS and DVD.
