RANDY JACKSON'S MUSIC CLUB, VOL. 1

Dream Merchant 21/Concord

For all the name-dropping Randy Jackson does on American Idol, he knows those people well enough to land them on his new album Randy Jackson's Music Club, Vol. 1.

The results are mixed — from the good pairing of Crunk Squad and Ghostface Killah on Like A to the not-so-good stunt duet of country singer John Rich and R&B singer Anthony Hamilton on Home or the fleeting Mariah Carey cameo in Understand.

Jackson is far better at spotting new talent and offering them the right surroundings, as he does with the breathy Barbi Esco on the cute My R&B and the Alicia Keys-ish Kelli Selah on Who's Gonna Love You Now.

And by making Paula Abdul sound like a less-crazy Britney Spears on Dance Like There's No Tomorrow, Jackson has delivered his Idol colleague a big new hit — something Simon Cowell probably couldn't swing.
