SUMMER FUN

Akron Skate Park — Near the Akron Fulton International Airport on the Service Road for the Rubber Bowl and Derby Downs, next to the Akron BMX track. Open dawn to dusk year-round. Features areas tailored to beginner, intermediate and advanced skaters. Admission free. Rules posted; safety equipment recommended; skate at your own risk. Information: 330-375-2804.

Canalway Center at Sippo Lake — 5712 12th St. N.W., Perry Township (330-477-3552). Featuring interactive exhibits including the Canal Boat Adventure that showcase the history of the Ohio & Erie Canal. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays. $5, $3 for Stark County residents, free for all children 3 and under. $12 cap for families.

Castaway Bay water park — 2001 Cleveland Road, Sandusky (419-627-2106, http://www.castawaybay.com). Cedar Point's indoor/outdoor hotel and water park. Room rates include tickets at the Caribbean-themed water park.

Cedar Point 1 Causeway Drive, Sandusky (419-627-2350, http://www.cedarpoint.com). Open daily through Monday; weekends only Sept. 7-Nov. 2. Hours vary. Admission for ages 3-61 and more than 48 inches tall, $42.95. Seniors over 62, and children 3 and older but less than 48 inches tall, $15.95. Children 2 and younger free at Cedar Point and Soak City. Discount for those with valid military ID. Parking $10-15.

 

Cuyahoga Falls Wading Pools — Six supervised wading pools for ages 9 and under: Lions Park, Linden Park, Indian Mountain Park, Quirk Cultural Center, Valley Vista and Oak Park. Closed for the season. 330-971-8425 or 330-971-8225.

Falls River Tours — Front Runner III and Cuyahoga Cruiser pontoon boats conduct hourlong sightseeing trips on the Cuyahoga River that feature historical narratives and descriptions of the vegetation along the banks. Boats are handicap-accessible. Departures are hourly from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays only through Oct. 5. Departures every half-hour on Sundays. Fares run $4-$5; kids 6 and younger, free. Boarding is at the North Pier Boardwalk (north of the fountain) of Riverfront Centre in Cuyahoga Falls, on a first-come basis. Charters available. 330-971-8225.

Goodtime III — Summer season runs through Labor Day. Four-deck, 1,000-passenger luxury ship makes daily narrated, two-hour lake/river tours at noon and 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays; 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Sundays. $15, $14 seniors, $9 children). Everyone who brings a photo from the last 50 years on either the Goodtime I, II, or III, will get $2.50 off their admission ticket on any of the daytime sight-seeing cruises Tuesday through Sunday. Also, narrated lunch cruises, entertainment cruises, dance and dinner dance cruises and rush hour cruises. Boarding at the East Ninth Street pier in Cleveland. Reservations essential at 216-861-5110. Great Wolf Lodge — 4600 Milan Road (U.S. 250), Sandusky (800-641-WOLF, www.greatwolf.com). Indoor/outdoor waterpark set in a backwoods theme is open to hotel guests. Call for room rates and availability.

Harmont Skateboard Park — 2710 Harmont Ave. N.E., Canton. Open dawn to dusk year-around. Free. Information: 330-456-4521.

Hinckley Lake — Off Bellus Road in the Hinckley Reservation, between West and East drives, Hinckley Township. Closed for the season.

Kalahari Resort — 7000 Kalahari Drive, Sandusky (419-433-7200, http://www.kalahariresort.com). Admission to indoor/outdoor hotel and water park included in hotel room prices. All-day admission available for $39-$42, evening admission from 5 p.m. to closing for $29-$32.

Ledge Pool — 1151 Ledge Road, Hinckley Township. Closed for the season.

Medina City Memorial Pool — 421 E. Homestead St., Medina. Closed for the season.

Medina City Skate Park — At Reagan Park, entrances on Weymouth Road and Reagan Parkway, Medina. Season runs through Oct. 31. Hours: dawn to dusk. Park open to skateboarders, in-line skaters and BMX bikers. Admission free; rules posted and waiver form must be completed. Information: 330-721-6950.

Nautica Queen — Daily lunch, dinner cruises with maximum of 400 passengers on two decks, boarding at the Nautica Entertainment Complex in the Cleveland Flats. Lunches are $28-$37 for adults, $16.38-$18.73 for children; dinners are $46.80-$52.66 adults, $22.25-$26.94 children; Sunday brunch, $37.50 adults and $18.69 children. North Canton Dogwood Pool — 365 Seventh St. N.E., North Canton. (330- 499-2052, http://www.northcantonohio.com/content/dogwood-swimming-pool.htm). Season runs through Aug. 31. Hours: 11 a.m.-8 p.m. daily including weekends. Memberships are $20-$150.

Perkins Woods Pool — 899 Diagonal Road, Akron. Closed for the season.

Portage Lakes State Park — 5031 Manchester Road, New Franklin. Hours: dawn to dusk daily. Lake swimming with sandy beach; no lifeguards. Also, Skate Park in the beach parking lot for boarders, bikers and in-line skaters; and the Big Oaks KidZone, a car-free gated area for children to bike, skate and play without the worry of cars in an area near the Big Oaks Shelter. Portage Princess Tour Boat — 355 W. Turkeyfoot Lake Road (across from Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Course), New Franklin. Reservations required for 1-, 11/2- and 2-hour general public cruises from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily, $12-$18 per person through Nov. 1. Portage Princess Pontoon Boat, smaller group cruises (12 or less) by reservation for 11/2- or 3-hour cruises available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, $20-$35 per person. Stark County Park District Family Sunset Pontoon Cruises — Sippo Lake Marina, 5300 Tyner St. N.W., Canton. Closed for the season. Call 330-477-3552. Walborn Reservation Marina, northwest of Alliance off Price Street in Lexington and Marlboro Townships. Thursdays, through today, at 7 and 7:45 p.m. Forty-five minute free ride requires reservations two weeks in advance. Call 330-477-3552.

The Wilds — 14000 International Road, Cumberland. Wildlife conservation area open seven days a week through August. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. New Mid-Sized Carnivore Conservation Center, Butterfly Habitat and Birding Station.
