Only a few months after Akron's three biggest rock exports played a hometown show, Akron's R&B contingent is returning home.
East High School grad James Ingram will perform an ''Easter Celebration'' concert April 11 at the Akron Civic Theatre. Howard Hewett, another Akron native who found fame with the group Shalamar, will be the featured guest. The Civic recently hosted Devo, Chrissie Hynde and the Black Keys in another all-Akron show.
Three-time Grammy winner Ingram will hold a contest for area churches. The church that sells the most concert tickets will win its choir the opportunity to perform on stage with Ingram.
Tickets go on sale Saturday. Reserve tickets are $95 and include seating in the first 10 rows and an after-show party with Ingram. Other ticket prices are $65, $50 and $35. Purchase at the Civic Theatre box office in person, by phone at 330-253-2488, online at http://www.akroncivic.com or through Ticketmaster, online at http://www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at 330-945-9400.

WOW!! Howard was just here at the Buchtel High Alumni dance and he was great . Now East High's James Ingram and Howard Hewitt on the same stage. It's about time!!!
Are you kidding me with the price of these tickets?
I noticed that the Civic is asking for premium prices for the tickets for their latest shows. I want them to survive, so I guess they will do what they want.
This is really great news. I'm sure it will be a wonderful show.
I didnt know James Ingram was from Akron. Smart marketing to get the Churches to sell out your show and provide backup. It keeps a community feel and gets tickets sold...the price for VIP is surprising but the ticket sale is a marketers dream!
I didnt know James Igram was from Akron. Sounds like a good show. GREAT marketing to have the Churches sell out your show for you and provide back up. The concert will have a community feel because of that. Very smart marketing...but the price for VIP is a bit surprising
