We Shall Remain: American Experience After the Mayflower It's not often that we see Native Americans on our television sets unless they're sharing screen time with Kevin Costner or getting shot at in a John Wayne movie. So it's refreshing to discover a powerful and provocative documentary series that devotes five nights to exploring our nation's history as seen through native eyes. Making good use of live-action dramatization, archival footage, animation and commentary from scholars and Native Americans, the epic program spans 300 years and covers a number of pivotal moments, from the arrival of the Mayflower in the 1620s to the siege of Wounded Knee in 1973. Along the way, it dispenses with tired cliches and reveals twists and surprises many of us never knew. Benjamin Bratt narrates. 9 p.m. Monday, PBS.
